MANAGEMENT

 

 

Carmen has a strong background in developing and managing media and publications. 

 

As editor of the Christian Leader, Carmen was responsible for the production and administration of the monthly denominational magazine. She planned content and wrote various articles and editorials in each issue. She was also responsible for design and layout for each issue and represented the interests of the Leader in various settings, including professional associations.

 

Prior to the Leader, Carmen managed the production of the UC Davis School of Law alumni magazine as well as the website, press releases, feature articles, advertising materials and special projects promoting development, alumni activities and public relations. She wrote and edited copy and coordinated and designed multi-page publications. She also interviewed and interacted with high profile individuals in state, federal and foreign governments and industry.

 

Currently, Carmen acts as the Executive Editor for Ares Magazine. where she works with a creative team to manage content, art and graphics, and marketing. 

 

 

SOCIAL MEDIA 

 

 

Carmen has developed online media presences and managed social networking sites and campaigns for individuals as well as organizations and events. 

 

Currently, Carmen is developing a social media strategy for Anabaptist Witness, for which she is an Editorial Board member.

 

Carmen developed, implemented and managed a social media campaign for a month-long crowd sourcing campaign on Kickstarter, which surpassed its $25,000 goal.

WRITER

 

 

Carmen has published and written a wide variety of material, including news and feature articles, film reviews, interviews, editorials, opinion pieces, television scripts, web content, press releases, and publicity materials. As a public information specialist with the City of Alexandria, she is responsible for professional communication with the public, the media and with department consumers regarding programs, events, projects and outreach efforts through the use of print and electronic communication tools. She writes In the Open Space, a regular column for Mennonite World Review that shares the name of her blog. She also was a contributing columnist for over five years for MWR's Bible Column which examines Scripture and its application) and Jim Henderson's former Ordinary Attempts Blog at Off the Map.
